DECOR CRUSH: Stripes
This is definitely not a ground breaking concept but lately...well, for a long time now, I have been obsessed with how much character painted stripes can add to a room. The possibilities are endless! Modern or traditional? Horizontal or vertical? Thick or thin? Bold or soft? Colorful or neutral? One of the best parts about striping a wall, ceiling or floor is all you need is a measuring tape, some tape, and paint!
These first two photos are two different rooms I have designed using vertical stripes to add detail and elevate the space on a tight budget.
A little girls room where I painted stripes as a focal wall. The vertical stripes give the wall a playful look and draw your eye up creating the illusion of taller ceilings.
Here I took a small drab pantry area and painted all four walls with a high contrast vertical stripe that matches the wall color to the adjoining kitchen. It not only compliments the kitchen but gives it tons of personality with out spending hardly any money.
Here a some of my favorite striped interior shots for future inspiration......
Thin vertical black and white stripes look crisp and modern while still feeling classic.
While soft low contrasting colored stripes look soft and traditional.
I love how this seemingly daring move of carrying the wall stripes over head not only looks amazing but somehow feels traditional and fresh.
This floor is amazing and although super affordable, ridiculously time consuming, Could be great for a high impact small entrance though?
Love this idea to liven up old back stairway or a stairway to an attic hideaway?
Pop the ceiling with a bright stripe against neutral walls for a modern playful look as seen here in J. Crew's Jenna Lyons son Beckett's room.
A personal favorite and inspiration for my next bedroom project (details to come), this chinoiserie inspired room by Tobi Fairley for the Hampton Designer showcase, leaves me mesmerized....
Stripes to anchor a gallery wall. I have never been a fan of purple until I came across this image last week. The color combinations in this room are perfection to me. Soft lavender has never looked so sophisticated.
Kitschy and classic. Wide turquoise and white stripes paired with a deep pop of contrasting color give off a ton of personality in this foyer designed by Ruthie Sommers.
A touch more masculine. These nautical inspired navy stripes are sophisticated and handsome.
Great color aside. I love the use of a large bold stripe to anchor a piece of furniture or draw your attention to something specific in a room.
I hope you are feeling inspired!
